23 July 2020
Ministers and officials from the 54 Commonwealth countries will meet on 23 July to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the sport sector.
The virtual forum will focus on how the health, economic and social challenges posed by the pandemic are affecting the positive impact of sport in the Commonwealth, and how member countries are responding to the disruptions in the sector.
Representatives will have an opportunity to:
exchange effective ways to maintain and boost the contribution of sport to social and economic development in response to the pandemic;
identify priorities for Commonwealth cooperation on sport policy;
review indicators to measure the contribution sport makes to the sustainable development goals; and
discuss promoting human rights in and through sport in a post-COVID world.
The forum is being held on the date ministers were due to meet in Tokyo for the now postponed Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting.
Amina Mohamed, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage, will chair the virtual forum.
